This Privacy Policy describes how NAKITA (“we”, “us”) collects, uses, and shares information when you use the NAKITA iPhone application and related services (the “Service”).
Information we collect
- Account information. Email address, display name, and authentication credentials needed to sign in. Passwords are stored in hashed form, not plain text.
- Inventory content. Locations, items, notes, quantities, values, tags, disposition/sales details, and photos you upload.
- Usage data. Limited activity needed to operate features (for example, recent places you viewed, or photo-identify usage for plan limits).
- Device and purchase data. Subscription status synced from Apple when you purchase Nakita Plus; we do not receive your full payment card details.
How we use information
- To provide, sync, and back up your inventory across your signed-in sessions.
- To operate optional features such as photo identify.
- To enforce free-plan limits and Nakita Plus entitlements.
- To communicate about the Service (for example, support replies).
- To maintain security, prevent abuse, and improve reliability.
Photo identify and OpenAI
NAKITA uses artificial intelligence to power optional photo identify suggestions. We use OpenAI (OpenAI, L.L.C.) as our AI service provider. When you use photo identify, we send only the information needed for that feature to OpenAI’s API. We do not use your inventory content to train our own models.
When photo identify runs, information sent to OpenAI may include:
- The photo you submit for identify (compressed image bytes)
- A short context flag indicating whether you are naming an item or a location, so suggestions match that use
We do not send your email address, password, display name, full inventory database, or payment details to OpenAI.
OpenAI processes this information on our behalf to return name suggestions. Under OpenAI’s API terms, data submitted through the API is not used by OpenAI to train their models. OpenAI may retain API data for a limited period for abuse monitoring and legal compliance, as described in OpenAI’s Privacy Policy and API data usage policies.
Photo identify runs only when you choose it (for example, after taking a photo and tapping identify). It is a Nakita Plus feature and may be subject to usage limits. If OpenAI is unavailable, identify may fail and you can still name items and places yourself.
Do not submit photos you do not want processed for this purpose.
Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with:
- Service providers that host our API, store files, or process identify requests, including OpenAI for photo identify as described above, under obligations to protect your data.
- Apple for App Store purchases and subscription validation.
- Legal requirements when we believe disclosure is required by law or to protect rights and safety.
Storage & retention
Your content is stored on our servers while your account is active. Soft-deleted items and locations may be retained for a period for integrity and recovery before permanent removal. You can delete your account in the NAKITA app under Account → Delete Account, which removes your account and associated inventory data from our servers. Security
We use industry-standard measures such as encrypted transport (HTTPS) and hashed passwords. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.
Children
NAKITA is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Your choices
- You can update or delete inventory content in the app.
- You can delete your account in the app (Account → Delete Account).
- You can manage or cancel Nakita Plus in your Apple ID subscription settings.
- You can contact us to request access, correction, or deletion of account data where applicable.
International users
We may process information in the United States or other countries where we or our providers operate. By using the Service, you understand your information may be transferred to those locations.
Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the revised version on this page with an updated date.
